Can I tow a Campod Caravan?

If you love the idea of holidaying in a Campod, but want to be absolutely sure that your vehicle is capable of towing one, you're in the right place!

The vast majority of cars (both combustion & electric) are capable of towing Campods with ease, thanks to the low MTPLM (max weight) and aerodynamic shape.

To check if your car is suitable, you can use one of the two following methods:

Check your V5C (logbook) document

This is the typical way to check your vehicles towing capacity.

Open your V5C document (commonly referred to as the "logbook") and look for the heading:

"O: Technical permissible maximum towable mass of trailer"

This will be found on the first inside page, in the "Vehicle details" section.

Beneath the above heading, 2 figures will be displayed. You're looking for:

"O.1: braked (kg)"

If this figure is 900kg or more, your vehicle is legally capable of towing a Campod!

Check the VIN plate

If you don't have your V5C document to hand, another way to check the towing capacity of your car is to look at the VIN plate.

This is usually affixed to either the chassis in the engine compartment, or more commonly on the inside of the door opening. It's a rectangular metal plate.

Once you have located your VIN plate, you'll need to make a note of the numbers displayed - these correspond to the "gross vehicle weight", "gross train weight" and "axle weights".

To find your vehicles towing capacity, subtract the "Gross Vehicle Weight" figure from the "Gross Train Weight" figure.

If the result is 900kg or more, your vehicle is legally capable of towing a Campod.
